Of the 10 ads which attracted the most criticism from the public, the ASB only upheld complaints against three of them... The third, a Hyundai Santa Fe advert which depicted a toddler taking the keys to his parents' car and driving off in it, caused more than 115 people to complain. The results show the ASB isn't interested in straying into the minefield of morality, even though such issues upset most viewers based on sheer numbers of complaints.
The Bureau obviously feels safer on firmer PC ground, picking off whimsical ads that can be seen as contravening health and safety regulations.
