Australia's first 'true blue' credit card, The Bankcard, is to be phased out.

First appearing in 1974, in the middle of a credit squeeze, the Bankcard itself has been squeezed by major international players Visa and Mastercard in addition to the veritable deck of cards offered by banks and other financial institutions.
